5 tips for clearer skin

We all want that healthy glow and clear skin but it doesn't all come down to expensive skincare regimes. Here are 5 tips for clearer skin...

1. Drink more water. I know you probably hear this all the time but it is so important. Water balances the natural oils on your face and keeps you hydrated. It also ensures your skin cells have the nutrients they need to maintain a healthy glow and heal scars or pimples. So whenever you think of it, have a glass of water.

2. Don't touch your face. Did you know that on average, we touch our face 2 to 5 times a minute. Imagine all of the germs from our hands, which we use to touch everything, getting onto our face and into our pores! Try to be mindful of when you are touching your face all the time and break the habit. Another thing to consider is all the germs on your phone which touch your face every time the phone rings. I recommend buying anti-bacterial wipes and wiping down your phone as often as you can. Your skin will thank you!

3. Change you pillow case often. We often forget about what is touching our face for so many hours each day. Make sure to wash your pillow case every 3-4 days to ensure any germs that are left on the surface do not clog your pores. Another alternative is to use a silk pillowcase. Silk's hypoallergenic properties reduce friction between the face and pillowcase, lowering the chances of infection and skin irritation.

4. Exercise. Sweating removes the toxins in your body that clog your pores and lead to breakouts. But make sure to shower shortly after exercising to wash off the toxins and dirt sitting on the surface of your skin. Exercising also allows your skin to produce more of its natural oils, helping it look healthy and naturally moisturised. Research also suggests that exercise allows the skin to repair itself more quickly. It's a win win!

5. Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Your diet is reflected on your skin. The more junk food you eat, the worse your skin will get. Try to eat nutritious, balanced meals and minimise unhealthy food consumption. Also think about eating and drinking what's best for your skin; fish, avocados, nuts, broccoli and green tea are all fantastic contributors to clear skin.
